How to compress an image to 200 KB

Last updated: October 16, 2026

200 KB is a sweet spot: small enough for upload forms and fast web pages, big enough that photos still look sharp on a laptop screen. SqueezeLocal has it as a one-click preset, and it handles a whole batch at once.

Free. No account. Up to 20 images at a time.

Steps

  1. Open squeezelocal.com.
  2. Under Target size, choose Under 200 KB.
  3. Drop in one image or a whole folder's worth. JPG, PNG and WebP all work.
  4. Download each file, or click Download all as ZIP.

Where 200 KB is the right size

For websites, add Max width too. Most page layouts never show an image wider than about 1920 px. Set Max width to 1920 px (or 1280 px for blog posts) along with the 200 KB target, and the result looks sharper than squeezing a full-size photo into the same space.

What SqueezeLocal does to reach 200 KB

It lowers the quality step by step until each file fits. If quality alone isn't enough, it also scales the image down. Files already under 200 KB are left as they are. SqueezeLocal never hands back a file bigger than the one you gave it.

Questions

Does PNG transparency survive?

Yes. PNG stays PNG and keeps its transparent background.

Can I do more than 20 images at once?

The free version does 20 at a time, which you can repeat as often as you like. SqueezeLocal Pro is a one-time purchase that raises it to 100 per batch and 30 MB per file.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Compression runs in your browser, on your device.
